Arnold Palmer
"Great-Grandpa Reading
'The Cat in the Hat'" |

The scene:
Early evening in a beautiful home in Florida. A young
girl lying in bed is having difficulty getting to sleep. |
|
Arnold Palmer is
walking down the upstairs hallway in his home when he
comes upon a light in the room of his youngest
great-grandchild. |
|
"What's wrong,
sweetie?" he asks her. |
"I can't sleep, Papa.
Can you read me a story?" she asks her famous
great-grand-father. |
"Why of course I will.
Which story would you like me to read?" |
"My favorite - 'Cat in
the Hat'." |
"You got it, it's my
favorite too!" says Arnold. |
|
He reaches up over the
bed, finds the book, opens it to the first page, and
begins reading: |
|
|
"The
Cat in the Hat" by Dr. Seuss
"The sun did not shine, it was
too wet to play, so we sat in
the house all that cold, cold
wet day. I sat there with Sally.
We sat here we two and we said
'How we wish we had something to
do.'"
|
|
|
Before he could finish
the first paragraph, the young girl had already drifted
off to sleep. Arnold leaned over, gave her a quick kiss
on her rosy cheek, and quietly walked out of the room,
but not before turning the light off and closing the
door. |
